The British Overseas School aims to be recognized internationally as a leader in the provision of modern, high quality UK education.The British Overseas School was founded, as a non-profit organisation, in 1958. As a primary school for the children of expatriate families, the BOS prospered and established an excellent reputation. Growth of student numbers allowed relocation to purpose built premises in the heart of the Defence Housing Authority; a peaceful Karachi suburb.
In 2000, an amendment to the School’s constitution opened admissions to local families, offering them the opportunity to join international families in enjoying the benefits of a contemporary British education. As a result of this change, the British Overseas School has, in many respects, become an international school; with many a number of nationalities represented at any one time. Nevertheless, it retains an essentially British character.
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the website of the British Overseas School. Whether you are already a member of the BOS community, or a prospective member, from inside or outside Pakistan, we hope that you will find our site helpful, informative and even inspirational. Some time ago I was asked what about our school makes me most proud; as I searched for an answer I realized that there are so many things. There are headline achievements, such as our British Schools Overseas accreditation, our children’s attainment in reading and mathematics and our students’ IGCSE examination results.

To achieve this we are committed to creating an educational ethos and environment from which the whole school community will benefit in terms of their learning, development and growth. We believe that our students will leave us as creative, constructive and responsible members of the international community instilled with enough enthusiasm, passion and ambition to last a lifetime.

It is rare to find a very good school without very good leadership. According to our BSO report, the British Overseas School benefits from “outstanding” leadership. Our Senior Leadership Team brings three critical components to the school: ambition, know-how and commitment. All of the Senior Leaders have extensive experience, inside and outside Pakistan; they have a range of educational and leadership competencies, but, most importantly, they bring the personal qualities that make our school’s purpose and approach values driven.
Any organisations, perhaps especially schools, are able to compile long lists of their values. A lexicon of how we would like our organisations to be. Concepts that overlap or conflict or bear no relation to each other. At the BOS we value learning above all, and it is our commitment to it that binds all that we value and all that we do.
The BOS is a small school, with a family feel. As such our community is extremely important. Without parent volunteers we would not be able to undertake many of the events and activities that have become part of our annual calendar. It is the hard work and commitment of our teachers, as well as the support of our parent community, that allows us to “punch above our weight”. Parents support our events, volunteer for supervision duties and, in some cases, lead enrichment activities. In 2018-19 more than 100 parents volunteered to help us in one way or another.
